Chapter 7 - The Blackout

Dominic and the fake technician violently smashed into the glass medical cabinets, sending sterile supplies crashing entirely across the floor.

I watched in absolute shock as my cowardly ex-husband desperately fought for control of the deadly, suppressed handgun.

The assassin aggressively elbowed Dominic in the ribs, trying to break free and complete his murderous sabotage mission.

My grandfather's security team could not risk firing their weapons in the dark room filled with highly flammable oxygen tanks.

I grabbed the heavy metal oxygen wrench from the emergency cart and sprinted fiercely toward the violent struggle.

I swung the heavy wrench with absolutely every ounce of my remaining strength, striking the assassin squarely in the back of his knee.

The fake technician roared in sheer pain, buckling instantly and dropping the heavy firearm onto the linoleum floor.

Dominic violently kicked the gun away and pinned the struggling man completely against the cold floor tiles.

Suddenly, the massive hospital backup generators finally roared to life, flooding the ward with blinding, brilliant fluorescent light.

The incubator monitors instantly reset, safely stabilizing the vital oxygen flow to my fragile, crying babies.

"Secure that man immediately!" my grandfather ordered his guards, pointing his silver cane at the defeated assassin.

Two massive guards hoisted the bleeding technician into the air, thoroughly searching him for any further hidden weapons.

I leaned heavily against Liam's incubator, completely exhausted, breathing rapidly as the massive adrenaline slowly faded away.

Dominic stood up slowly, clutching his bruised chest and panting heavily, looking at me with a strange, unrecognizable expression.

"I didn't do it for you," Dominic whispered defensively, wiping a smear of blood from his torn cheek.

"I did it because I realized those babies are the only actual legacy I will ever leave behind in this world."

I stared at him, feeling absolutely zero pity for his sudden, completely hypocritical revelation of fatherly guilt.

Before I could tell him to get entirely out of my sight, the defeated assassin suddenly let out a sick, twisted laugh.

He forcefully spit a tiny, hidden plastic capsule directly from his mouth into his own palm.

In one lightning-fast motion, the assassin violently jammed a hidden, microscopic needle protruding from the capsule straight into Dominic's arm.

Dominic gasped loudly, his eyes widening in absolute terror as he stumbled awkwardly backward into a medical cart.

"The judge sends his final regards," the assassin sneered wickedly, just before the guards knocked him completely unconscious.

Dominic violently convulsed once, his eyes rolling completely into the back of his head, and collapsed heavily onto the floor.
