Chapter 8 - The Matriarch's Fall

Eleanor Vance marched through the shattered glass, accompanied by four heavily armed corporate mercenaries.
"Put the gun down, you pathetic disappointment," Eleanor barked at her own son with absolute disgust.
Julian flinched, instinctively lowering his weapon as the lifelong fear of his mother completely paralyzed him.
Eleanor glared at the computer terminal, watching the download progress bar hit ninety percent.
"Kill them both and destroy that terminal," Eleanor ordered her mercenaries without a single ounce of hesitation.
Arthur immediately opened fire, neutralizing two of the mercenaries before they could even raise their rifles.
I dove beneath the heavy metal console, shielding the USB drive with my body as bullets sparked dangerously around the room.
Julian screamed in sheer panic, firing his handgun wildly into the darkness without hitting a single target.
Arthur moved with terrifying, lethal precision, eliminating the remaining mercenaries and reloading his weapon in seconds.
Eleanor realized her forces were completely decimated, her arrogant facade finally crumbling into absolute terror.
She pulled a small, concealed revolver from her designer purse and aimed it directly at my hiding spot under the desk.
"If I am going to prison, you are dying with me," Eleanor shrieked, her finger tightening on the trigger.
Suddenly, a loud, agonizing scream echoed through the server room.
Julian had stepped directly in front of his mother, taking the fatal bullet straight into his own chest.
He collapsed heavily onto the cold floor, coughing blood as he stared up at the mother who had just shot him.
Eleanor dropped the gun in absolute horror, falling to her knees beside her dying son.
For the very first time in her miserable life, genuine tears of profound grief fell from her cold eyes.
I watched from beneath the desk, completely stunned by Julian's unexpected, ultimate sacrifice to save my life.
The computer terminal beeped loudly, signaling that the massive data transfer was one hundred percent complete.
The irrefutable evidence of Eleanor's vast criminal empire was now permanently in the hands of the federal authorities.
Arthur rushed to my side, pulling me out from under the desk and checking me frantically for any injuries.
"We did it," I whispered, wrapping my arms tightly around his neck in sheer relief.
The sound of approaching police sirens echoed loudly from the city streets far below the skyscraper.

The FBI had received the decrypted files and were actively swarming the building to arrest everyone involved.
Arthur grabbed my hand and led me safely out of the server room, leaving Eleanor weeping over the broken body of her son.
