Chapter 7 - The Confession

Pamela swung the wooden bat violently toward my head.

I rolled desperately to the side, and the bat smashed into the hardwood floor instead.

I kicked my legs out, sweeping Pamela’s feet entirely out from under her.

She crashed to the ground, cursing loudly as I scrambled to my feet.

Brenda rushed into the bedroom, holding a sharp kitchen knife and blocking my only exit.

"You really thought you could sneak back into our house, you stupid girl?" Brenda sneered.

I backed toward the window, secretly pressing the activation button on the recording device hidden in my collar.

"Why did you do it?" I shouted, trying to keep them talking.

"Your mother found out Kevin was stealing her money to pay the syndicate," Pamela yelled from the floor.

"She threatened to write Kevin out of the will, so we ran her over to secure our future," Brenda confessed proudly.

The microscopic wire captured every single horrifying word of their guilt.

I grabbed a heavy bedside lamp and hurled it directly at Brenda’s chest.

She dropped the knife and stumbled backward, giving me exactly enough space to escape.

I sprinted down the hallway, burst through the front door, and jumped into Detective Ramirez’s waiting car.

We had the confession, and the federal sting operation was finally ready to launch.

Ramirez called Victor and set up a final meeting at the diner to exchange the money.

When we arrived at the diner an hour later, the front door was wide open, and it was eerily silent inside.

We walked in with our weapons drawn, only to find Victor lying dead in a massive pool of blood.

Kevin was standing over the body, holding a smoking handgun and laughing like a madman.
