Chapter 3 - The Safety Deposit Box

The two men did not attack me, but they simply grabbed my car keys and threw them down a storm drain.

They told me that Kevin owed their boss a lot of money, and I was not allowed to leave the city.

I grabbed Hannah, ran down the street, and checked into a cheap, rundown motel under a fake name.

The next morning, I left Hannah with a trusted friend and took a taxi directly to the central bank.

I handed the old key to the bank manager, praying it would open my mother's private vault.

The manager led me into the secure vault room and left me alone with a long metal box.

I opened the lid and found a stack of official property deeds with my name on them.

My mother did not just own the small diner, she secretly owned the entire commercial block.

Beneath the deeds was a massive life insurance policy worth two million dollars.

Kevin was listed as the sole beneficiary, but the signature at the bottom was completely forged.

A handwritten note from my mother was clipped to the back of the policy.

The note read, "If I die in an accident, Kevin killed me to pay his syndicate debts."

I placed the documents in my bag, realizing my husband had orchestrated a horrific murder for money.

I turned around to leave the vault and go straight to the police.

The heavy steel vault door suddenly slammed shut, locking me entirely inside from the outside.

Through the thick glass window of the vault, I saw the bank manager accepting a thick envelope of cash from Kevin.
