Chapter 5 - The Deal

I backed myself against the far wall of the interrogation room, clutching my bag tightly.
Kevin walked toward me, demanding I hand over the property deeds and the insurance documents.
Before he could reach me, the door opened again and a tall man in a tailored suit walked in.
"This is Victor, the man I owe two million dollars to," Kevin explained nervously.
Victor looked at me with cold, dead eyes and stated that the debt was now legally my problem.
I knew I had to think incredibly fast if I wanted to survive this nightmare.
I looked directly at Victor and told him that Kevin was completely useless and would never get his money.
I proposed a deal, promising to liquidate my mother's entire estate and pay Victor in full within forty-eight hours.
In exchange, Victor had to keep Kevin far away from me and my daughter.
Victor smiled, clearly amused by my sudden bravery.
He agreed to my terms, but he pulled a cell phone from his tailored pocket.
He showed me a live video feed of the motel room where I had left Hannah with my friend.

A massive man in a ski mask was standing right outside the motel room door.
"If you try to run, my men will take your daughter before you even reach the highway," Victor warned softly.
