Chapter 5 - THE LEVERAGE

As they drove deeper into the mountains, Elena finally revealed her secret.
She pulled up a loose floorboard in the RV and produced a small, encrypted USB drive wrapped in plastic.
"I didn't just work for Julian; I managed his offshore accounts," Elena confessed, her hands shaking. "When I found out I was pregnant, I knew he would try to destroy me. So, I downloaded everything. The bribery ledgers. The illegal land grabs. The payoffs to the state judges. This drive is enough to put the entire Sterling family in federal prison for the rest of their lives."
Arthur stared at the tiny piece of plastic. "Why didn't you go to the police?"
"Julian owns the local police! I was waiting to get to the FBI field office in Chicago, but then he crashed my car... and I got so sick..."

Arthur nodded slowly, a dangerous plan forming in his mind. "We aren't going to the FBI just yet. If we hand it over, Julian will tie it up in court with expensive lawyers for years. He'll hunt us down while he's out on bail. We need to destroy his empire publicly. We need to humiliate him."
Arthur pulled the RV over and booted up his encrypted laptop. He wasn't just a truck driver; he was a man who knew how to navigate the unseen networks of the country. He reached out to a contact he hadn't spoken to in years—an investigative journalist at a major national syndicate who owed Arthur a life debt.
