Chapter 5 - The Flight Plan

I drove my car at ninety miles an hour down the dark, winding highway.

The engine roared in protest as I pushed the vehicle far beyond its limits.

We finally reached the heavily guarded chain-link gates of the private airfield.

I slammed on the brakes, parking wildly on the grass near the entrance.

We jumped out of the car just in time to hear the deafening roar of jet engines.

We watched helplessly through the fence as a small black jet taxied quickly down the runway.

Within seconds, the plane lifted gracefully into the dark night sky.

We were entirely too late to stop the flight from taking off.

I refused to give up, grabbing a heavy wrench from the trunk of my car.

I smashed the glass window of the airfield's main operational office to get inside.

The security alarms immediately began blaring loudly across the deserted building.

I frantically searched the dispatcher's desk until I found the physical flight log binder.

I flipped through the pages rapidly, scanning for Daniel's name or the jet's registration number.

The flight manifests showed the black jet was heading to a remote, private island in the Caribbean.

The island was entirely owned by Daniel's extremely wealthy and highly secretive estranged family.

“He’s taking them to the family compound,” I realized with a heavy heart.

Chloe looked at the manifest and took a deep, determined breath.

She revealed to me that she actually had a commercial pilot license.

Even better, she had unrestricted access to her own family's private plane parked at a nearby hangar.

We rushed out of the office and drove quickly to the other side of the airfield.

We boarded Chloe's luxurious jet and she initiated the emergency takeoff sequence.

We lifted into the air in hot pursuit of the kidnapper who had ruined our lives.

Midway over the dark ocean, the cockpit radio suddenly crackled with loud static.

A threatening message came through from Daniel's pilot, warning us that we would be shot down if we entered their private airspace.
