Chapter 8 - The Hidden Enemy

The emergency red lights flickered on, casting a bloody glow over the underground vault.
A tall man in a tailored suit stepped out from the shadows near the entrance.
Daniel gasped from the floor, recognizing the man instantly.
"What are you doing here, Victor?" Daniel asked, his voice filled with genuine terror.
Victor was the ruthless head of the rival corporation that Daniel had been secretly colluding with for years.
"You became a liability tonight, Daniel, and I am here to clean up your mess," Victor said smoothly.
Victor's armed mercenaries flooded into the room, surrounding Emily, Marcus, and Daniel.
Victor demanded that Emily hand over the scanned files and the silver key immediately.
Emily realized that Victor wanted to use the blackmail material to take over the entire city's political landscape.
"If you kill us, the files automatically upload to the press," Emily bluffed, keeping her chin held high.
Victor smiled cruelly and pulled a tablet from his jacket.
"My hackers intercepted your upload ten minutes ago, my dear," he revealed.
Emily felt a cold drop of sweat slide down her neck as she realized she was truly outplayed.
Victor ordered his men to execute them and make it look like a tragic robbery gone wrong.
The mercenaries raised their weapons, taking careful aim at their targets.
Suddenly, a loud, piercing alarm echoed through the banking facility.

Thick white smoke began pouring out of the ventilation shafts, blinding everyone in the room.
Someone had intentionally triggered the bank's extreme anti-theft counter-measures.
