Chapter 10 - The False Victory

Maya’s recovery over the next week was nothing short of a medical miracle.

The color returned to her cheeks, her breathing stabilized, and she even managed to laugh at a cartoon playing on the hospital television.

Vance spent every single minute by her bedside, holding his daughter’s hand and reading her stories.

He had fully expected Grant to enforce the cruel contract and legally banish Vance from the children's lives.

But surprisingly, Grant had not filed the paperwork, allowing Vance to enjoy a temporary, beautiful truce.

Maddie finally returned to the hospital on Friday evening, looking stunning in a simple dress, her eyes soft with immense gratitude.

She walked up to Vance, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him into a deeply emotional, forgiving embrace.

For a brief, shining moment, Vance believed that he had survived the darkest chapter of his life and had finally won his true family back.

He felt entirely victorious, convinced that the love between him and Maddie could be fully repaired.

Later that night, Vance went down to the hospital's administrative office to personally pay the massive surgical bills.

The chief medical officer respectfully handed Vance a thick, sealed envelope containing Maya’s final genetic screening reports.

Vance opened the envelope, smiling as he read the first page that confirmed Maya was a 100% biological match to his DNA.

He casually flipped to the second page, which contained the routine cross-reference DNA test performed on Leo during the donor search.

Vance’s confident smile slowly vanished, his blood running completely cold in his veins.

The medical document explicitly stated that Leo, the little boy with his exact dimple, shared zero percent of Vance's DNA.

He frantically turned the page, his breath catching in his throat as he read the true biological father's name printed in bold black ink.

The father of the little boy was officially listed as Grant Ellison.

Vance realized with terrifying clarity that Maddie had not been an innocent victim abandoned in a hospital three years ago.

Maddie and Grant had orchestrated a flawless, multi-year conspiracy to steal Vance's fortune, and Vance had just willingly signed away his entire empire to protect a son who belonged to his greatest enemy.
