Chapter 9 - The Undercover

Dominic stared at Elias in absolute disbelief, unable to process the FBI badge hanging around his neck.

Elias walked slowly toward him, lowering his weapon and raising his hands in a gesture of peace.

"I am so sorry I had to hit you in the subway, Dominic, but I had to maintain my cover," Elias explained quietly.

He revealed that he had been working as an undercover federal agent for the past five years.

His mission was to infiltrate Lucian’s criminal syndicate and gather enough evidence to dismantle the entire operation.

When Dominic broadcasted the ledger’s contents on live television, he gave the FBI the final legal justification they needed to raid every property.

Elias explained that federal teams were currently storming Valeria’s broadcasting studio to arrest her for attempted murder.

Lucian had already been recovered from the basement and was sitting in a federal holding cell awaiting trial.

The nightmare was finally over, and the entire corrupt empire had been completely destroyed in a single morning.

Dominic felt a strange sense of emptiness wash over him as the adrenaline finally left his exhausted body.

He handed the physical black ledger to Elias, officially surrendering the last piece of the family curse.

"You are a free man, Dominic, and the government is dropping all potential charges against you," Elias said with a warm smile.

Elias offered to arrange a secure, private flight to Switzerland so Dominic could be with his mother during her recovery.

Dominic accepted the offer gratefully, desperate to leave this dark, violent city behind him forever.

He was escorted to a secure military airfield, where a small jet was waiting on the runway.

He boarded the plane and collapsed into the plush leather seat, falling into a deep, dreamless sleep the moment they took off.

He woke up hours later as the plane touched down on a snowy runway nestled in the Swiss Alps.

He took a taxi directly to the private medical facility, rushing through the pristine white hallways to find his mother's room.

He pushed the door open and saw Margaret sitting up in bed, looking tired but incredibly peaceful.

She smiled brightly when she saw him, holding her arms out for a long, desperate embrace.

They cried together, holding each other tightly, knowing they had finally won their freedom.

But as Dominic pulled away to wipe his tears, he noticed a strange, black envelope resting on his mother’s bedside table.
