Chapter 10 - The Reckoning

Dominic sat in a comfortable chair beside his mother's bed, holding her hand as she peacefully slept.

The surgery had been a complete success, and the doctors assured him she would make a full recovery within weeks.

The television mounted on the hospital wall played a muted international news broadcast showing Valeria and Lucian being dragged into a courthouse.

They were facing multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole, their arrogant faces now pale and terrified.

The FBI had successfully seized every single asset, bank account, and property connected to the criminal syndicate.

Dominic had legally reclaimed the small, legitimate portion of his father’s original wealth that was untainted by crime.

It was more than enough money to buy a beautiful, secluded villa on the Mediterranean coast where they could live in absolute peace.

The dark, violent chapter of his family’s history was officially closed, completely erased by the cleansing light of justice.

He had saved his mother, cleared his own name, and destroyed the monsters who had terrorized them.

He poured himself a glass of sparkling water, finally allowing himself to feel a profound sense of total victory.

Everything was going to be perfect, and they were finally completely safe.

Dominic stood up and walked over to the bedside table to examine the strange black envelope he had noticed earlier.

There was no return address, no stamp, and no writing on the outside of the thick, heavy paper.

He carefully broke the wax seal and pulled out a single, crisp photograph and a handwritten note.

The photograph clearly showed his late father, alive and well, standing on a tropical beach holding today’s newspaper.

Dominic’s blood ran completely cold as he read the jagged, familiar handwriting on the terrifying note.

"You took down my disappointing lieutenants, Dominic, but the true king never truly dies."
