Chapter 6 - The Highway Ambush

Daniel stared at his own wrist in absolute, unadulterated shock.

The horrifying realization that he was my biological brother completely shattered his professional composure.

He quietly explained that he had grown up in the foster system with absolutely no memory of his real parents.

He had dedicated his entire life to becoming an investigator just to solve the mystery of his own abandoned past.

I stepped forward and gently touched his arm, completely overwhelmed by the impossible reunion.

We had absolutely no time to process the emotional magnitude of finding my lost sibling.

Margaret urgently reminded us that Elaine and Martin were still actively hunting us to finish their bloody mission.

We quickly escorted Aunt Rebecca out of the warehouse and helped her climb into the backseat of our stolen pickup truck.

Luis took the wheel and aggressively accelerated out of the shipyard, heading toward the main interstate.

We needed to reach the federal bureau headquarters to officially expose the massive criminal conspiracy.

As we merged onto the dark, rain-slicked highway, a blinding spotlight suddenly illuminated the cab of our truck.

A heavy police cruiser roared out from a hidden access road and aggressively slammed into our rear bumper.

The violent impact sent our truck skidding wildly across the slippery asphalt.

Luis desperately fought the steering wheel, miraculously managing to keep the heavy vehicle from completely flipping over.

The police cruiser pulled up directly alongside our driver's side window.

Martin Ellison was behind the wheel, his face twisted into a mask of pure, desperate rage.

He rolled down his window and raised a heavy, high-powered shotgun with one hand.

Daniel leaned completely out of the passenger window and fired three rapid shots at Martin's front tire.

The bullets struck the thick rubber, but the police cruiser was equipped with military-grade run-flat tires.

Martin ruthlessly swerved his heavy vehicle, intentionally forcing our truck completely off the edge of the highway.

We crashed violently through the metal guardrail and plummeted down a steep, muddy embankment.

The truck rolled twice before finally slamming into a massive oak tree at the bottom of the ravine.

The world spun in a chaotic blur of shattered glass, deployed airbags, and deafening crunches of metal.

I groaned in agonizing pain, my vision completely blurred by the blood dripping from my forehead.

I looked over and saw that Aunt Rebecca and Margaret were unconscious but still breathing in the back.

Luis was trapped behind the crushed steering wheel, groaning softly as he tried to free his pinned legs.

I slowly crawled out of the shattered passenger window, dragging myself into the freezing mud.

Daniel stumbled out behind me, completely dazed but firmly gripping his pistol.

The bright headlights of the police cruiser illuminated the top of the embankment above us.

Martin slowly walked down the muddy hill, holding his heavy shotgun with a terrifying, deadly calm.

He did not aim the deadly weapon at me or my newly discovered brother.

Martin raised the shotgun and aimed it directly at the trapped, defenseless body of Investigator Luis.
