Chapter 6 - The Decoy Attack

The heavily armed mercenaries kept their laser sights perfectly trained on Natalie's forehead.

Dominic sobbed hysterically, begging me to let her go so he could live.

I stared at the man who had tried to leave me and my babies destitute.

"He is absolutely nothing to me," I told Natalie with an ice-cold tone.

Natalie's eyes widened as she realized she had zero leverage in this negotiation.

To prove her sheer ruthlessness, she shifted her aim and fired a single bullet directly into Dominic's leg.

Dominic screamed in excruciating pain, collapsing to the floor in a pool of his own blood.

The mercenaries immediately advanced, but Natalie pulled a fragmentation grenade from her coat pocket.

She ripped the pin out with her teeth and held the live explosive high in the air.

"Back off, or we all die together!" she shrieked.

The security team hesitated, unwilling to risk a catastrophic explosion inside the hospital's foundation.

I slowly raised my hands, pretending to surrender to her insane demands.

"Take my grandfather's armored car and leave," I offered, kicking a set of keys across the concrete.

Natalie smiled wickedly, keeping the grenade raised as she backed toward the luxury vehicle.

She climbed into the driver's seat and sped out of the garage, leaving Dominic bleeding on the ground.

The mercenaries rushed forward to secure the area and apply a tourniquet to Dominic's leg.

I watched the taillights of the car disappear, a dark feeling of dread washing over me.

The escape had been entirely too easy for a highly trained syndicate enforcer.

My grandfather's voice crackled urgently over the lead mercenary's tactical radio.

"Audrey, we have a massive breach on the fourth floor!" Arthur shouted through the static.

My heart completely stopped beating as the terrifying reality crushed my soul.

The hostage situation in the garage was nothing but a calculated, pathetic decoy.

"The real hit squad just attacked the neonatal intensive care unit," Arthur yelled.
