Chapter 4 - The Syndicate's Target

I stared at the phone in absolute, paralyzing disbelief.
Dominic had perfectly framed me to take the fall for his massive criminal enterprise.
Arthur immediately pulled out his satellite phone and ordered a total lockdown of the hospital wing.
He promised me that his private mercenary army would protect the twins with their lives.
I wiped the tears from my face, a new and powerful sense of fierce determination rising in my chest.
I refused to cower in a hospital room while a cheating coward destroyed my children's future.
I sat down at Arthur's laptop and accessed a hidden backdoor into Dominic's corporate cloud server.
I had secretly memorized his master administrative password during our second year of marriage.
I rapidly sorted through his deleted digital files, searching for any proof of his syndicate conspiracy.
I found a hidden folder containing encrypted security camera footage from Dominic's private office.
I pressed play on the most recent video file, completely unprepared for the truth on the screen.
The footage clearly showed Natalie casually meeting with a heavily armed, notoriously brutal syndicate hitman.
She was smiling warmly as she handed the assassin a detailed blueprint of the hospital's neonatal unit.
My blood ran completely ice cold as I watched Natalie betray us.
We realized that Dominic was completely oblivious to the fact that his pregnant mistress was secretly working for the syndicate.
Arthur immediately dispatched his elite tactical team to fortify every single entrance to the building.
I knew that simply hiding behind armed guards would never permanently stop a hit squad.
I formulated a highly dangerous, desperate plan to draw the traitors out into the open.
I sent Dominic a desperate text message, pretending that I was completely broken and terrified.
I lied and told him I was willing to surrender my entire trust fund in person if he called off the hitmen.
Dominic eagerly replied within seconds, demanding that I meet him alone in the hospital's underground parking garage.
I walked into the dark, echoing garage completely alone to maintain the fragile illusion of my surrender.
Dominic stepped out from behind a concrete pillar with a disgustingly arrogant smile.
I asked him for the syndicate's account numbers so I could transfer the money.
May you like
Before he could speak, a cold metal barrel was pressed directly against the back of my head.
"You are not transferring anything, Audrey," Natalie's voice whispered maliciously in my ear.
