Chapter 5 - The False Victim

I froze in absolute terror as the gunshot echoed through the quiet neighborhood.

The police officers instantly drew their weapons and rushed toward the front porch.

I fell to my knees, holding Noah tightly against my chest to shield him.

"My dad is in there!" I screamed frantically to the approaching officers.

The broken front door swung open slowly on its damaged hinges.

Evan walked out onto the porch with his hands raised high above his head.

He was covered in fresh blood, and fake tears were streaming down his face.

"He tried to kill me in my own home!" Evan sobbed, pointing back inside the house.

Two armed officers rushed past him and entered the dark hallway cautiously.

They emerged a moment later, dragging my father out in heavy metal handcuffs.

My father was bleeding profusely from a severe gunshot wound to his left shoulder.

"He broke into my house and attacked me for no reason," Evan lied flawlessly to the police.

An officer approached me and roughly pulled my arms behind my back.

"Wait, you do not understand what actually happened here!" I pleaded through my tears.

The officer ignored my cries and locked the cold handcuffs tightly around my wrists.

"You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder," the officer stated coldly.
