Chapter 9 - The Daughter of the Enemy

The green glow of the computer screens illuminated Alexander's trembling hands.
He kept the barrel of his rifle aimed precisely at Samantha's heart.
Olivia stepped between them and demanded that Alexander lower his weapon immediately.
Alexander's voice shook with betrayal as he accused Samantha of being a spy all along.
He said her real father was Victor Sterling the ruthless rival who destroyed the Hayes family.
Samantha backed away with tears streaming down her exhausted face.
She swore on her life that she had never heard the name Victor Sterling before today.
She reminded Alexander that Victoria had treated her like a worthless maid for ten years.
If she was the daughter of a powerful billionaire she would never have been washing dishes.
Alexander's finger remained dangerously tense on the trigger of his gun.
He argued that Sterling must have planted her there to eventually infiltrate the corporation.
Olivia violently slapped Alexander across the face causing him to stagger backward.
She yelled that his paranoia was exactly why Marcus was able to steal the company.
Olivia grabbed the keyboard and initiated the final sequence to freeze Marcus's accounts.
The transfer of power required sixty seconds to fully complete.
Heavy footsteps suddenly echoed from the stairwell at the end of the server room.
A dozen heavily armed guards stormed onto the floor led directly by Marcus Hayes.
Marcus smiled wickedly as he aimed a gold-plated pistol at his brother's head.
He sarcastically applauded their effort but declared that the game was finally over.
Alexander pushed Olivia and Samantha behind a row of massive server racks for cover.
Gunfire erupted instantly shredding the expensive computers and sending sparks flying everywhere.
Alexander returned fire with lethal precision dropping two of Marcus's men immediately.
Samantha covered her ears as the deafening sound of bullets destroyed the room.
Marcus shouted over the noise offering to let the women live if Alexander surrendered.
He claimed he only wanted his brother dead to secure his permanent rule.
Alexander looked at the computer screen which showed the transfer at ninety-five percent.
He told Olivia to grab Samantha and run toward the emergency exit on his signal.
Alexander stood up from cover and exposed himself to draw all the enemy fire.
Bullets ripped into his tactical vest forcing him to fall hard onto his knees.
Olivia grabbed Samantha's hand and pulled her desperately toward the metal fire doors.
They burst into the stairwell just as the computer system beeped loudly confirming the transfer.
Marcus screamed in pure rage as his phone buzzed notifying him of his frozen assets.
He fired wildly at the servers destroying the terminal completely in his anger.
Olivia and Samantha ran down three flights of stairs before stopping to catch their breath.
Samantha cried hysterically realizing that Alexander had sacrificed himself for them.
Olivia pulled her forward fiercely stating that they had to finish what he started.
They reached the ground floor lobby only to find it completely deserted.
The police sirens wailed in the distance rushing toward the corporate building.
Olivia smiled and said Marcus was finished because he had no money left to pay his private army.
They walked out the front doors into the rainy night finally breathing the air of freedom.
But as they stepped onto the sidewalk a black van suddenly screeched to a halt in front of them.
The side door slid open revealing Victoria Collins sitting elegantly in the back seat.

She held a suppressed pistol aimed directly at Olivia's head and smiled warmly.
Victoria politely ordered her real daughter to get into the van and leave the garbage on the street.
