Chapter 4 - The Midnight Escape

The sterile walls of the medical room seemed to spin around Samantha.
She gripped the edge of the examination bed to keep herself from collapsing onto the floor.
Alexander was only twenty-six years old.
It was biologically impossible for him to be the father of a twenty-year-old girl.
Unless the man standing in front of her was not Alexander Hayes at all.
Samantha kept her face perfectly neutral as he turned back around to look at her.
Alexander smiled warmly and asked if she was ready to go upstairs to her new bedroom.
She forced a weak smile and nodded while pretending to be overwhelmed by exhaustion.
He led her up a glass elevator into a massive penthouse overlooking the glowing city skyline.
Alexander told her to rest because tomorrow they were going to war against Victoria.
He closed the heavy oak door and locked it from the outside with a heavy metallic click.
Samantha instantly sprinted toward the floor-to-ceiling windows to look for an escape route.
She was trapped on the fortieth floor of a high-security residential skyscraper.
Her mind raced back to the genetic report she had seen on the doctor's desk.
She remembered Victoria always telling her that the Hayes family were monsters who played God.
Samantha quietly opened the dresser drawers looking for anything she could use as a weapon.
She found a heavy bronze statue and placed it carefully by the door.
Then she noticed a small glowing blinking light hidden inside the smoke detector.
There was a hidden camera watching her every move from the ceiling.
She casually walked into the attached bathroom and turned on the shower to create steam.
Under the cover of the thick fog she slipped out of her white apron.
She found a pair of black sweatpants and a dark hoodie in the bathroom closet.
Samantha quickly dressed and opened the small ventilation grate near the ceiling.
She squeezed her body into the narrow metal duct just as she heard the bedroom door unlock.
Footsteps slowly approached the running shower in the bathroom.
Through the vent she saw the man claiming to be Alexander standing there.
He was holding a syringe filled with a glowing blue liquid.

He pulled out his phone and made a call while staring at the empty shower.
He angrily told the person on the phone that the clone had escaped.
