Chapter 5 - The Truth in the Dark

The metal ventilation duct was freezing against Samantha's shaking hands.
She crawled blindly through the darkness while trying not to make a single sound.
The word clone echoed in her mind like a terrifying nightmare.
It explained why the DNA test showed a parental match despite their similar ages.
She was not his sister and she was not his daughter.
She was a genetic copy created for a purpose she did not yet understand.
Samantha crawled for what felt like hours until she reached a large exhaust grate.
She kicked the metal grate open and dropped into a dark underground parking garage.
The cold concrete scraped against her knees as she scrambled to her feet.
She hid behind a massive concrete pillar as two armed guards walked past her location.
They were whispering about locking down the building to find the runaway asset.
Samantha waited until they turned the corner before sprinting toward the exit ramp.
A sleek silver sports car suddenly pulled up right beside her with its headlights off.
The passenger door flew open and a familiar voice ordered her to get inside immediately.
Samantha gasped when she saw Olivia sitting behind the steering wheel.
Her glamorous stepsister was wearing tactical gear instead of a designer dress.
Olivia pulled a handgun from her holster and aimed it at the approaching security guards.
She fired two suppressed shots that shattered the garage lights plunging them into darkness.
Samantha did not have time to think as she dove into the passenger seat.
The sports car's tires screamed against the concrete as Olivia sped up the ramp.
They burst out into the rainy city streets leaving the skyscraper far behind.
Samantha stared at the girl who had mocked her for washing dishes just a few hours ago.
She asked Olivia what the hell was going on and why she was helping her.
Olivia kept her eyes focused on the rearview mirror while weaving through traffic.
She confessed that the spoiled rich girl act was just a cover story to stay close to Samantha.
Victoria was not a gold digger but a rogue scientist trying to hide Samantha from the Hayes Corporation.
Olivia explained that Alexander needed Samantha's organs to cure his own genetic disease.
Samantha felt a tear roll down her cheek as she realized everything was a lie.
She asked Olivia where they were going to hide from a billionaire who owned the city.
Olivia pulled the car into an abandoned shipping yard near the docks.
She stated that they were going to the only person who could rewrite Samantha's DNA signature.

Olivia turned off the engine and looked at Samantha with absolute dead seriousness.
She said they were going to wake up the real Alexander Hayes from his cryogenic sleep.
