Chapter 9 - The House of Lies

Tyler stared at his mother in absolute shock, slowly lowering the gun away from the little girl's back.
"What are you talking about, Mom?" Tyler asked, his arrogant facade crumbling into genuine confusion.
Jennifer laughed bitterly and took a threatening step toward her own golden child.
"I knew about the Sterling inheritance from the very beginning, Tyler," Jennifer confessed loudly.
She revealed that she was the one who had actually tampered with the brakes on the Sterling family's car fifteen years ago.
Robert had been entirely too cowardly to commit the murder himself, so Jennifer took matters into her own hands.
"I did not spend fifteen years raising another woman's brat just to split the billions with a useless husband and a greedy son," she spat.
Tyler's face contorted with rage as he realized his own mother was planning to eliminate him to keep the entire fortune.
"You really think you can take me down?" Tyler yelled, raising the gun to point it directly at his mother's chest.
A tense, deadly Mexican standoff unfolded on the wooden porch as the family of monsters finally turned on each other.
Olivia stood perfectly still, ensuring the hidden microphone in her pocket was capturing every single word of the horrific confession.
The open police frequency was undoubtedly lighting up across the entire state as officers listened to the brutal truth.
"Drop the gun, Tyler, or I swear I will smash your skull," Jennifer threatened, gripping the wooden bat tightly.
Before either of them could make a fatal move, the front door of the lake house violently banged open.
Robert stumbled onto the porch, bleeding heavily from the head wound he sustained during the truck crash.
He was holding the silver handgun he had recovered from the ruined safe house.
"Nobody is taking my money!" Robert screamed, firing a wild, desperate shot into the dark night sky.
The sudden gunshot caused Tyler to panic, and he instinctively pulled the trigger of his own weapon.
A bullet struck Robert squarely in the shoulder, sending the older man crashing backward through the glass screen door.
Tyler quickly grabbed the fallen silver handgun from the wooden deck, now dual-wielding both deadly weapons.

He aimed one gun at his bleeding father and turned the other gun directly toward Olivia's heart.
"I am ending this right now, and I am taking the money for myself," Tyler declared with an unhinged, psychotic grin.
