Chapter 5 - The Escape

Tyler took a slow, menacing step toward the narrow bed where Olivia was huddled.

He held the lethal syringe up to the dim light, flicking the side of the plastic tube with his finger.

"You really thought my girlfriend would help you escape this fortress?" Tyler mocked her cruelly.

He explained that Robert had stolen the Sterling fortune, but the massive trust fund was set to legally revert to the true heir on her eighteenth birthday.

They needed her to die in a highly documented, tragic psychiatric accident before that date arrived.

"Hold still, little sister, this will only hurt for a second," Tyler sneered as he reached for her arm.

He completely underestimated the fact that Olivia's spinal shock had entirely worn off.

Olivia did not cower or beg for mercy as he lunged forward.

She planted both of her fully recovered feet solidly against the metal bed frame.

She launched herself forward with explosive speed, driving her shoulder directly into Tyler's chest.

The sheer surprise of the attack threw Tyler completely off balance.

He stumbled backward, dropping the deadly syringe as he crashed hard against the concrete wall.

Olivia did not hesitate for a single microsecond to capitalize on her advantage.

She sprinted past his groaning body and darted out into the dimly lit psychiatric ward corridor.

Alarms immediately began to blare overhead, bathing the hallway in a terrifying, flashing red light.

She ran barefoot across the cold linoleum, dodging confused orderlies rushing toward the commotion.

She remembered the digital map she had studied on the burner phone before Tyler destroyed it.

She bypassed the maintenance door Sarah had promised to unlock and headed straight for the laundry chute.

She yanked the heavy metal hatch open and threw herself down into the dark, slick metal tube.

She slid rapidly through the darkness, landing violently in a massive pile of dirty hospital linens in the basement.

She scrambled out of the laundry cart and bolted through the underground loading dock doors into the freezing, pouring rain.

She ran wildly through the dense woods surrounding the asylum, ignoring the sharp branches tearing at her skin.

She finally reached a desolate, muddy highway just as a sleek black sedan screeched to a halt beside her.

The passenger door swung open, and a man wearing a dark trench coat yelled for her to get inside.

"I am Agent Miller, I tracked the GPS signal from your burner phone!" the man shouted over the storm.

Olivia threw herself into the warm car, sobbing with absolute relief as they sped away from the nightmare.

She thanked the agent profusely, believing she was finally safe from her murderous fake family.

The agent offered her a warm towel from the backseat and offered a comforting smile.

"You are completely safe now, Victoria," Agent Miller promised in a soothing tone.

He turned the steering wheel and pulled the car into the driveway of a secluded, dark safe house.

Olivia stepped out of the car and walked into the living room, ready to finally tell her entire story.

Sitting comfortably in a leather armchair by the fireplace was Robert Harrison, holding a loaded handgun.
