Chapter 2 - The False Narrative

The cold fluorescent lights hummed above them as Robert aggressively snatched the tablet from the doctor's hands.

He smashed the expensive device against the edge of the metal bed frame until the screen shattered into useless black shards.

"My daughter is suffering from severe delusions and a history of pathological lying," Robert told the terrified nursing staff gathering in the hallway.

Tyler casually strolled into the room with his hands shoved deep into the pockets of his designer jeans.

He looked down at Olivia's paralyzed legs and offered her a wicked, knowing smirk.

"Don't worry, little sister, they have excellent padded cells for crazy people," Tyler mocked her quietly.

Doctor Patel backed away toward the emergency call button on the wall.

"I am calling the police to report a suspected kidnapping," the doctor threatened bravely.

The corrupt lawyer chuckled and pulled a silver badge from his jacket pocket.

"I am also a licensed magistrate in this county, Doctor Patel," the lawyer sneered.

"If you make that phone call, I will personally see to it that your medical license is revoked by tomorrow morning."

Olivia felt a sudden, sharp tingling sensation shoot down her right leg.

The paralysis was only temporary, and her nerves were already beginning to heal from the brutal fall.

She knew she had to hide her returning strength if she wanted any chance to escape this nightmare.

Two massive orderlies walked into the room carrying a heavy canvas straightjacket and thick leather restraints.

"Make sure she is heavily sedated before you put her in the transport van," Jennifer commanded from the doorway.

A nurse approached the bed with a syringe filled with a cloudy, thick liquid.

Doctor Patel intentionally bumped into the nurse, causing the needle to fall and shatter on the linoleum floor.

"Oops, my apologies, I will go fetch another one from the pharmacy," the doctor said while winking subtly at Olivia.

As the doctor bent down to clean up the broken glass, she quickly slipped a tiny object under Olivia's pillow.

The orderlies did not wait for the medication and simply strapped Olivia aggressively onto a mobile gurney.

They wheeled her out of the hospital into the freezing night air while her fake family watched with triumphant smiles.

Olivia was loaded into the back of a dark transport van that smelled strongly of bleach and old metal.

As the van sped away into the darkness, Olivia reached her bound hands painfully under the thin pillow.

She pulled out the object the doctor had hidden for her.

It was a small, prepaid burner phone with a single text message glowing on the screen.

The message read that the police were entirely compromised and she had to trust the person waiting at the asylum.
