Chapter 4 - The Inside Man

The glowing image of Sarah and Tyler kissing sent a violent chill completely down Olivia's spine.
The sympathetic nurse was not an ally sent by Aunt Caroline at all.
She was a dangerous spy planted by Tyler to ensure Olivia never made it out of the facility alive.
Olivia realized the midnight escape plan was undoubtedly a carefully orchestrated trap.
If she walked through that maintenance door, Tyler would be waiting on the other side to silence her forever.
She had to formulate a new plan using the only weapon she had left in her possession.
Her legs were rapidly regaining their full strength, though she continued to drag them whenever the guards watched.
She opened the burner phone's dial pad and typed in the emergency number for the local police.
She stopped herself just before pressing the green call button.
The text message from Doctor Patel had explicitly warned her that the local authorities were deeply compromised by Robert's money.
She needed to contact someone outside of the town's jurisdiction who had the power to intervene.
She used the phone's internet browser to search for the federal agent assigned to the Sterling family's cold case.
She found a news article from fifteen years ago quoting a determined FBI investigator named Agent Miller.
She managed to locate the main phone number for the regional FBI field office and dialed the digits with trembling fingers.
A stern voice answered the line after three agonizing rings.
"FBI tip line, how can I direct your call?" the operator asked mechanically.
"I need to speak to Agent Miller regarding the Victoria Sterling kidnapping case," Olivia whispered frantically into the receiver.
The operator placed her on a long, terrifying hold while heavy footsteps echoed in the hallway outside her cell.
Finally, a deep and gravelly voice picked up the phone.
"This is Miller, who is this?" the man demanded impatiently.
"My name is Victoria Sterling, and my kidnappers are trying to kill me before my eighteenth birthday," Olivia cried softly.
Agent Miller gasped audibly over the phone line, clearly shocked to hear from a ghost.
"Where are you currently located, Victoria?" the agent asked with sudden, intense urgency.
Before she could answer the question, the heavy steel door of her cell violently swung open.
Tyler stepped into the tiny room with a wicked smile, holding a syringe filled with clear liquid.
He snatched the burner phone directly out of her hand and crushed it beneath his expensive leather boot.

"Dad did not push you down those stairs, Olivia," Tyler whispered with a sinister laugh.
"I did it because Dad was far too weak to finish the job he started fifteen years ago."
