Chapter 7 - The Rescue

The deafening roar of the crash echoed through the ruined living room as a cloud of plaster dust filled the air.

Robert was thrown violently backward, his handgun flying out of his grip and skittering across the wooden floor.

Agent Miller drew his service weapon, coughing wildly as he tried to see through the thick, choking debris.

The driver's side door of the wrecked pickup truck kicked open with tremendous, angry force.

Aunt Caroline climbed out of the shattered vehicle wielding a heavy, rusted steel crowbar.

She did not hesitate for a single second when she saw the corrupt federal agent aiming his gun.

Caroline swung the heavy metal bar with all her might, striking Agent Miller squarely in the side of his knee.

The agent screamed in agony, collapsing to the floor and dropping his weapon into the debris.

Caroline rushed over to the dining chair and frantically began cutting the thick nylon ropes with a pocket knife.

"I told you I would never stop fighting for you, sweetheart," Caroline whispered fiercely as she freed Olivia's bruised wrists.

They scrambled over the hood of the ruined truck and ran out of the gaping hole in the house.

Caroline tossed Olivia the keys to Agent Miller's unmarked police cruiser parked perfectly in the driveway.

"You drive, my hands are shaking far too much," Caroline commanded as they jumped into the vehicle.

Olivia slammed the cruiser into reverse and tore out of the driveway, spinning the tires wildly on the wet asphalt.

As they sped down the desolate country road, Caroline explained how she had managed to find the safe house.

She had secretly installed a GPS tracker on Robert's personal vehicle months ago when her suspicions first began.

"I broke into his private office safe while he was at the hospital dealing with your fall," Caroline revealed.

She pulled a thick manila folder from her jacket and placed it gently on the dashboard.

"I found your original birth certificate, the fake adoption papers, and the offshore bank accounts," she stated proudly.

They finally had all the physical, undeniable evidence needed to destroy Robert and his corrupt accomplices.

"We need to drive straight to the main FBI headquarters in the city and bypass the local agents entirely," Olivia decided firmly.

They felt a sudden, massive surge of hope that this horrific nightmare was finally coming to an end.

The police cruiser's dashboard radio suddenly crackled to life with a burst of harsh static.

Tyler's voice echoed through the car's speakers, sounding chillingly calm and entirely unhinged.

"If you drive to the FBI, I will put a bullet in your little daughter's head, Aunt Caroline," Tyler threatened over the radio.
