Chapter 2 - The Trust Clause

The paramedic looked over the legal document, her expression turning professional and detached.

"This looks legally binding, sir," she said, motioning for her partner to load me onto the stretcher.

"No, it's a forgery!" I screamed, finally finding my voice.

"He wants to steal my baby and my estate!"

Bianca leaned against the doorframe, checking her manicured nails with a bored expression.

"She's been delusional since Nathan died, poor thing," Bianca said loud enough for the EMTs to hear.

They strapped me down, ignoring my frantic pleas, treating me exactly like the unstable widow my father claimed I was.

The doors of the ambulance slammed shut, trapping me in the back with Richard.

He leaned close to my ear as the sirens blared to life.

"You should have just packed your bags, Elena," he whispered coldly.

"Now I am going to put you in a psychiatric hold, and your child will go into my custody."

I squeezed my eyes shut, praying that Samantha was as fast as Nathan always said she was.

We arrived at the hospital in a chaotic blur of bright lights and shouting nurses.

They wheeled me directly into the delivery room, preparing for an emergency extraction.

Richard stood triumphantly at the door, handing the fake proxy to the attending doctor.

"Give her whatever sedatives you need to keep her quiet, I authorize it," Richard commanded.

The doctor prepared a syringe, walking toward my IV line.

Before the needle could pierce the plastic tube, the delivery room doors burst open.

Samantha Reed marched into the room, flanked by two armed hospital security guards.

"Step away from my client," Samantha ordered, holding up a file bearing a massive red seal.

"I have an emergency federal injunction overriding all previous medical proxies, signed by a judge ten minutes ago."

Richard’s face went pale as the security guards stepped between him and my bed.

The doctor dropped the syringe, immediately shifting his focus back to my baby's dropping heart rate.

"Push, Elena, push right now!" the doctor yelled.

I pushed with every ounce of strength I had left, screaming until a beautiful, healthy cry filled the room.

My son was born.

They placed my beautiful boy on my chest, and for a moment, the nightmare vanished.

Then Samantha stepped closer, looking down at me with an expression of pure dread.

"We stopped the proxy, Elena," she whispered gently.

"But Richard used the distraction to drain the entire two-million-dollar offshore life insurance account."
