Chapter 6 - The Poisoned Toast

The massive projector screen was displaying highly confidential, heavily encrypted banking records.

However, the names on the offshore accounts did not belong to me or my technology company.

The documents clearly proved that James and Robert had been systematically embezzling millions of dollars from an elderly charity fund.

James dropped the microphone, the loud feedback screeching through the elegant ballroom.

He frantically yelled at the technician to turn the projector off immediately.

I looked toward the back of the room and saw Uncle Arthur standing near the control booth.

Arthur held up a small black flash drive with a satisfied, vengeful smile.

He had hacked into James's server and swapped the files right before the presentation began.

The wealthy guests began whispering frantically, pulling out their phones to take pictures of the damning evidence.

Robert rushed the stage, his face turning bright red as he tried to physically unplug the massive screen.

My father stood frozen in absolute shock, finally realizing that his two golden boys were nothing but white-collar criminals.

My mother suddenly clutched her chest, letting out a sharp, breathless gasp.

She stumbled backward, knocking over a crystal vase before collapsing violently onto the marble floor.

The crowd screamed, instantly parting to give the fallen woman some space.

I rushed to her side, entirely forgetting my anger in the face of a terrifying medical emergency.

I yelled for Robert to help her, reminding everyone that he was a highly trained doctor.

Robert slowly walked over to us, his eyes completely devoid of any human empathy.

He leaned down, pretending to check our mother's rapidly fading pulse.

He leaned close to my ear, his voice dropping to a sinister, chilling whisper.

He told me that he had the only emergency adrenaline shot in his medical bag out in the car.

He promised to let our mother die right here on the floor unless I instantly signed over the deed to my six-million-dollar mansion.
