Chapter 1 - The Silent Chat

I stared at the glowing screen of my phone as the family group chat lit up with Thanksgiving plans.

My mother was finalizing the dinner menu with meticulous detail.

My brother Robert, the successful doctor, boasted about the expensive imported wine he was bringing.

My other brother, James, the prestigious corporate lawyer, confirmed he would be hosting the gathering at his suburban home.

Not a single message was directed at me.

I didn't respond to the thread.

I didn't argue about being excluded.

I certainly didn't beg for a seat at a table where I was clearly no longer wanted.

I was always considered the different one in my traditional, image-obsessed family.

While my brothers followed safe, respectable paths, I had dived headfirst into the unpredictable world of business.

I started with nothing but a cheap laptop, a drafty garage, and countless sleepless nights.

For years, I heard the exact same discouraging words from my parents.

They told me that building a startup was not a real job.

They constantly ordered me to stop dreaming and get a stable paycheck.

They promised me that I would never get anywhere without a traditional degree.

When my early projects failed, they laughed with a cruel compassion that was thinly disguised as love.

But one day, everything completely changed for me.

My tech company exploded in global popularity overnight.

Wealthy investors, massive corporate contracts, and millions of dollars poured in all at once.

I went from being the family loser to appearing on the glossy covers of prestigious financial magazines.

However, my massive financial success didn't erase the deep wound of their contempt.

Instead of being proud, they resented me for proving them entirely wrong.

So, this year, they simply decided not to invite me to the Thanksgiving dinner.

I looked around my stunning six-million-dollar mansion, taking in the sweeping views of the illuminated city skyline.

Instead of sitting alone, I decided to prepare something completely different.

I was going to host a massive dinner with a hundred hand-picked guests.

None of them would be from my biological family.

I began sending out digital invitations to my loyal employees, supportive mentors, and the friends who had actually believed in me.

The catering team was booked to prepare a feast that would rival a royal banquet.

I finally felt a sense of peace as I finalized the luxurious event details.

Suddenly, my private security system alerted me to an incoming message on my encrypted business phone.

May you like

The message was from an unknown number, and it contained only one terrifying sentence.

I know exactly what you are planning for Thanksgiving tonight, and I am going to make sure you lose everything you have ever built.
