Chapter 9 - Ticking Clock

Silvio froze completely, staring down the barrel of the silver revolver as the freezing wind whipped around them.

He could not risk calling Grant's bluff when the lives of hundreds of innocent people and his family were on the line.

Grant slowly stood up, keeping the weapon perfectly aimed while casually brushing the dirt off his expensive suit.

He ordered Silvio to step back and kick his tactical knife off the edge of the wooden pier.

Silvio reluctantly complied, watching his only weapon splash silently into the dark, churning water below.

Grant arrogantly explained that he had already transferred the offshore funds to an untraceable cryptocurrency account.

He did not even need the inheritance will anymore; he just needed all the witnesses permanently erased.

He commanded Silvio to call the children out from hiding so they could all die together on the boat.

Silvio refused, crossing his arms and intensely glaring at the man who had destroyed his entire family.

Grant sighed dramatically and pointed the silver revolver toward the heavy shipping crates where Ethan and Mia were hiding.

He pulled the hammer back, declaring that he would just hunt them down himself after putting a bullet in Silvio.

Suddenly, a loud, roaring engine shattered the tense silence of the marina.

Lucinda had hot-wired a massive industrial forklift and was driving it blindly down the narrow wooden pier.

She slammed the heavy steel forks directly into the side of Grant's luxurious speedboat, crushing the fiberglass hull.

The violent impact threw Grant off balance, sending his silver revolver skittering across the wet wooden planks.

Silvio instantly dove for the weapon, his fingers wrapping tightly around the cold steel grip.

He rolled onto his back and aimed the gun precisely at Grant's chest as the corrupt billionaire scrambled to his feet.

Grant smiled wickedly, holding up a small black detonator with a blinking red light and his thumb resting heavily on the trigger button.

With a look of pure malice, Grant casually tossed the live dead-man's switch over his shoulder into the freezing, pitch-black water.
