Chapter 5 - Blood Money

Marcus stepped out of the luxury SUV, keeping the suppressed weapon perfectly leveled at Silvio’s chest.
He apologized for the betrayal, explaining that two million dollars was enough to buy anyone's loyalty in this economy.
Silvio slowly raised his hands, subtly shifting his body to completely shield Ethan and Mia from the line of fire.
He tried to reason with his former commander, reminding him of the honor they had sworn to uphold.
Marcus merely laughed, stating that honor did not pay for early retirement on a private tropical island.
He ordered Silvio to get onto his knees and place his hands behind his head.
Silvio lowered himself slowly, his sharp eyes frantically scanning the underground garage for any tactical advantage.
He noticed a highly pressurized fire extinguisher mounted on the concrete pillar just inches from Marcus’s left shoulder.
As his knees touched the cold floor, Silvio abruptly kicked a stray metal hubcap directly at Marcus’s shins.
The older man flinched, instinctively aiming his pistol slightly downward for a split second.
Silvio exploded upward, closing the distance between them faster than a striking rattlesnake.
He slammed his fist into the pressure valve of the fire extinguisher, shattering the protective glass casing.
A massive, blinding cloud of thick white chemical foam violently erupted into Marcus’s face.
The gun fired blindly into the ceiling, the suppressed shot echoing softly in the massive concrete cavern.
Silvio grabbed Marcus by the tactical vest and threw him forcefully into the side of the heavy SUV.
He delivered a swift, brutal strike to the traitor’s neck, dropping him unconscious onto the garage floor.
Silvio quickly confiscated the silenced pistol and grabbed the keys to the armored SUV.
He rushed the children into the backseat and jumped into the driver's seat, starting the powerful engine.

As they sped out of the parking garage, Silvio’s stolen radio began to crackle with encrypted police chatter.
The dispatcher calmly announced that all city bridges and tunnels were officially being locked down to capture a dangerous kidnapper.
