Chapter 8 - The Sinking Ship
Lucinda looked absolutely terrified, a stark contrast to the arrogant woman who had ordered their deaths earlier.
She frantically explained that Grant had completely lost his mind and planned to destroy the entire building.
He had rigged the lower support columns with high-yield explosives to stage a tragic terrorist attack.
This insane plan would eliminate Silvio, the children, and Lucinda in one catastrophic, untraceable event.
Silvio grabbed Lucinda by the collar, demanding to know where Grant was currently hiding.
She choked back a sob and revealed he was waiting at the private docks with a speedboat to escape the city.
Silvio shoved her forward, forcing her to guide them through the labyrinth of emergency maintenance stairs.
They sprinted down fifty flights of concrete stairs, their legs burning as the building’s emergency alarms began to blare.
Automated evacuation warnings echoed through the stairwell, masked by the terrifying sound of distant structural groans.
They burst out of the ground floor exit and ran toward the dark, churning waters of the private marina.
Grant’s luxurious speedboat was idling at the end of the wooden pier, its running lights turned off.
Silvio told Lucinda to stay with the children behind a stack of heavy shipping crates.
He drew his tactical knife and crept silently along the slippery wooden planks of the marina.
He could see Grant standing at the helm of the boat, casually checking his gold wristwatch.
Silvio lunged from the shadows, tackling the corrupt billionaire violently onto the fiberglass deck of the boat.
They rolled dangerously close to the edge, exchanging brutal, heavy blows in the freezing darkness.
Grant managed to kick Silvio in the chest, creating enough distance to pull a silver revolver from his waistband.
He pointed the gun squarely at Silvio's head and let out a chilling, victorious laugh.
