Chapter 4 - The Shadow Watchers

Sarah grabbed my arm and yanked me violently behind a massive concrete pillar.

The black SUV smashed into the side of her parked car with a deafening metallic crunch.

I covered my head as shattered glass rained down onto the cold garage floor.

Two large men in dark suits stepped out of the vehicle with weapons drawn.

I realized with absolute certainty that Marcus was not the only one orchestrating this cover-up.

I remembered the original dashcam footage clearly in my mind.

There were two distinct shadows standing by the estate gate, watching me crawl across the dirt.

One shadow belonged to Eleanor, but the other shadow was far too tall to be Marcus.

I suddenly understood that the second shadow belonged to Arthur, my incredibly wealthy and ruthless father-in-law.

Arthur controlled a massive tech empire that could easily hack a hospital network and wipe a flash drive.

Sarah and I scrambled through the darkness of the garage, hiding between parked cars.

The armed men swept the area with tactical flashlights, hunting us like animals.

We reached the heavy steel maintenance door that led to the underground subway tunnels.

Sarah used her hospital master key to override the electronic lock just in time.

We slipped into the damp, echoing tunnel as bullets struck the heavy door behind us.

I leaned against the brick wall, gasping for air and feeling a sharp pain in my stomach.

I told Sarah about Arthur and his vast resources, realizing we were fighting an untouchable billionaire.

Sarah pulled a cheap, untraceable burner phone from her scrub pocket and handed it to me.

She said we needed to call the police, but I knew the local precinct was already bought by Arthur.

The burner phone suddenly rang loudly in my hand, shattering the silence of the tunnel.

I stared at the glowing screen, absolutely terrified to answer the unknown number.

May you like

I slowly brought the phone to my ear and heard a deep, frantic voice on the other end.

The man told me he was the truck driver, and he had not given Marcus the original memory card.
