Chapter 2 - The Replaced Guardian

My blood turned to absolute ice as Marcus pulled away with a loving smile.
He gently stroked my hair while his eyes promised me unimaginable violence.
I knew I had to get the digital copy of the dashcam footage to the police immediately.
I waited until Marcus and Eleanor were forced to step into the hallway to fill out hospital paperwork.
I frantically pressed the red call button taped to my bed rail.
A young, compassionate nurse named Sarah rushed into the room a few seconds later.
I grabbed her wrist with trembling hands and begged her to help me.
I gave her the password to my secret email account and told her to download the audio file to a physical flash drive.
Sarah looked terrified but she nodded quickly and slipped out of the room.
I felt a tiny spark of hope that I might actually survive this nightmare.
The door opened again, but it was not the kind doctor who had originally treated my wounds.
A tall, imposing man in a pristine white coat walked in holding my medical chart.
He introduced himself as Doctor Vance, the new head of my specialized care team.
He smoothly announced that my previous doctor had been unexpectedly transferred to a different ward.
I immediately noticed the expensive designer watch on his wrist, which matched the one Marcus wore.
Doctor Vance casually pulled a loaded syringe from his pocket and tapped it with his finger.
He stated that Marcus had authorized a heavy sedative to help me cope with my severe delusions.
I screamed for help and kicked my legs defensively as he approached the bed.
The heavy wooden door of my room was completely shut and locked from the inside.

He grabbed my arm with brutal force and prepared to plunge the needle into my vein.
Before the needle could pierce my skin, the fire alarm in the hallway began blaring with a deafening screech.
