Chapter 6 - The Secret Alliance

Sarah scrambled backward until her spine hit the cold concrete wall.
Vanessa stepped closer, uncapping the needle with a sinister grin.
"This will mimic a massive heart attack," Vanessa explained casually.
"Everyone will simply think the guilt finally drove you to suicide," she added.
Vanessa lunged forward to plunge the needle into Sarah's neck.
Sarah reacted with pure survival instinct and kicked upward with both feet.
Her heavy institutional boots slammed squarely into Vanessa's kneecap.
Vanessa shrieked in pain and dropped the deadly syringe onto the floor.
Before Vanessa could recover, Sarah grabbed her by the collar of her expensive coat.
She slammed Vanessa's head brutally against the iron bars of the door.
Vanessa collapsed to the concrete floor, completely unconscious.
Sarah stood over her attacker, breathing heavily with wide, terrified eyes.
Suddenly, a tall figure stepped out of the shadows of the hallway.
It was the female guard who had slipped Sarah the secret note.
The guard pulled off her uniform cap, revealing her face in the dim light.
"Good hit," the guard said, tossing a ring of heavy keys toward Sarah.
Sarah caught the keys, staring at the woman in absolute confusion.
"Detective Miller sent me to get you out of here," the undercover guard explained.
"We have exactly ten minutes before the night shift does a hard headcount," she urged.
Sarah quickly swapped her gray uniform for Vanessa's expensive designer coat and sunglasses.
She dragged Vanessa's unconscious body onto the cell mattress and covered her with the blanket.
Sarah locked the heavy iron door from the outside and followed the guard down the hall.
They slipped out through the asylum's underground laundry delivery dock.
Detective Miller was waiting in an unmarked black sedan with the engine running.
Sarah jumped into the passenger seat as the car sped off into the rainy night.
"We do not have much time before they realize she is missing," Miller said tensely.
"David is hosting a massive gala tonight to celebrate his new role as CEO," Miller informed her.
Sarah looked at her reflection in the side mirror, her eyes cold and hardened.
"Take me to my father's penthouse," Sarah commanded with a voice made of steel.
Miller looked at her sideways with genuine concern.
"You are a wanted fugitive, Sarah, you cannot show your face in public," he warned.
Sarah reached into the pocket of Vanessa's stolen designer coat.
She pulled out a small, encrypted USB drive she had taken off Vanessa's unconscious body.
"I am not going to hide anymore," Sarah declared fiercely.
"I am going to that gala, and I am taking back my empire tonight," Sarah promised.

Miller smiled grimly and handed her a loaded police-issue handgun.
"Then you might need this," the detective whispered.
