Chapter 4 - The Hospital Interrogation

The harsh fluorescent lights of the hospital hallway burned Sarah's eyes.
She woke up with an IV needle taped to the back of her bruised hand.
Her beautiful white gown was stained with mud, smoke, and sweat.
She ripped the oxygen mask off her face and sat up in the hospital bed.
A sharp pain radiated through her skull, but the poison had been neutralized.
Detective Miller walked into the quiet room with a grim expression.
"You are a very lucky woman, Sarah," Miller said, taking a seat beside her.
"The toxin was a rare synthetic paralytic, but we pumped your stomach in time," he explained.
Sarah immediately gripped the edge of her mattress.
"Where is my father?" Sarah asked, her voice cracking with fear.
Miller looked down at his notebook and sighed heavily.
"He is in a medically induced coma in the intensive care unit," Miller replied softly.
Tears streamed down Sarah's pale cheeks as the reality set in.
Her perfect day had turned into a nightmare of betrayal and violence.
"Did you arrest Vanessa?" Sarah demanded, wiping her eyes fiercely.
Miller shook his head and closed his leather notebook.
"Vanessa vanished from the venue during the mass evacuation," the detective admitted.
"Your husband disappeared right alongside her," he added quietly.
Sarah felt a cold wave of absolute fury wash over her body.
David had chosen his psychotic ex-lover over his dying bride.
"I want to press charges for attempted murder," Sarah stated firmly.
Miller nodded, but his face remained tense and serious.
"There is something else you need to see, Sarah," Miller said, pulling out a tablet.
He tapped the screen and handed the device to her.
It was a live news broadcast showing David standing at a press podium.
David looked completely distraught, shedding fake tears for the flashing cameras.
"My beautiful bride tragically poisoned our wedding guests in a fit of madness," David lied to the reporters.
Sarah gasped loudly, staring at the screen in pure disbelief.
"She tried to murder her own father to secure her early inheritance," David continued flawlessly.
David held up a forged medical document showing Sarah had a history of severe psychosis.
"I am working with the authorities to ensure my wife gets the psychiatric help she needs," David concluded.
Miller took the tablet back and looked Sarah directly in the eyes.
"They are framing you for the entire attack," Miller warned her.
Before Sarah could respond, two heavily armed federal agents entered her hospital room.

One of them held up a pair of heavy steel handcuffs.
"Sarah Hayes, you are under arrest for the attempted murder of your father," the agent declared.
