Chapter 10 - The Masterpiece of Moving On

One Year Later.

The summer sun poured through the large bay windows of my living room, illuminating the hardwood floors.

I sat on the rug, laughing as Leo, now a sturdy, giggling one-year-old, aggressively stacked wooden blocks into a tower before smashing them back down. He was the absolute light of my life.

The house was completely mine. I had painted the walls, bought new furniture, and erased every single trace of Marcus Sterling from the premises. I had recently been promoted at my marketing firm, and life felt peaceful, stable, and wonderfully secure.

I poured myself a cup of coffee and checked my phone.

A notification popped up from a local news site. Marcus had officially filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. According to the court records, Chloe was suing him for back child support for their daughter, but since he was working a minimum-wage retail job, she was getting pennies.

They had tried to destroy me in the dark. They thought I would crumble, weep, and beg for them to stay.

Instead, I took their betrayal and used it to forge an unbreakable armor.

Leo crawled into my lap, burying his face in my shirt. I wrapped my arms tightly around him, kissing the top of his head.

"We did it, little man," I whispered to him.

The nightmare was permanently behind us. Ahead was just a beautiful, wide-open future, built on truth, resilience, and the kind of fierce, protective love that no one could ever steal.
