Chapter 9 - The Final Bluff

Julian’s face was entirely purple with rage as he pressed the cold steel of the gun aggressively against Maxwell’s skin.

"You have exactly ten seconds to tell me where the real documents are, or I blow his brains out!" Julian screamed maniacally.

Sarah remained perfectly still, her face an unreadable mask of absolute, chilling calm in the face of pure death.

She slowly began counting down out loud in her head, trusting entirely in the secret failsafe she had established hours ago.

"The real documents are locked inside a secure server at the central police station," Sarah finally told him in a quiet voice.

Julian threw his head back and laughed loudly, a truly ugly sound that barely masked his underlying panic.

"I own the local police chief, so I can have those files permanently deleted in exactly five minutes," Julian bragged confidently.

Sarah tilted her head slightly, her triumphant smile slowly growing wider.

"I was absolutely not talking about the local police," Sarah replied softly.

Suddenly, the helicopter pilot yelled out in sheer terror over the loud internal communication radio system.

Three heavily armed, ultra-fast federal military jets suddenly broke through the clouds, entirely surrounding their slow chopper in the night sky.

A booming, digitized voice over a massive megaphone aggressively ordered the helicopter pilot to land immediately or be shot down.

Julian looked out the small window in pure horror, finally realizing he had been completely and entirely outsmarted.

He looked at the open side door of the helicopter, then back at Sarah with absolute, murderous intent in his eyes.

If he was going to spend the rest of his life in federal prison, he was going to take her straight to hell with him.

Julian lunged forward aggressively, grabbing Sarah by the ruined fabric of her gown and violently pulling her toward the open drop.
