Chapter 3 - The Desperate Move

Deafening screams instantly tore through the luxurious dining room as Julian wildly aimed the weapon at the crowd.

Wealthy guests dove frantically beneath their gold tables, shattering expensive champagne flutes and plates of fine caviar.

Maxwell’s highly trained security guards immediately drew their own weapons, shouting aggressive commands for Julian to drop the gun.

Julian ignored them completely, his hands shaking violently as he pointed the dark barrel directly at Sarah’s chest.

"Nobody move another inch, or I swear I will kill her right now!" Julian screamed, his voice cracking with sheer desperation.

Sarah stood perfectly still, refusing to show this pathetic coward even a single ounce of the fear raging inside her.

She looked Julian dead in the eyes, silently daring him to make the worst mistake of his entire miserable life.

"You do not have the guts to pull that trigger, Julian," Sarah said with a terrifyingly calm and even tone.

Julian swallowed hard, sweat pouring down his pale face as the heavy reality of murder weighed on his fragile mind.

Instead of shooting her, he suddenly lunged to his left and grabbed Cynthia tightly around the neck.

Cynthia let out a bloodcurdling shriek as Julian pressed the cold metal barrel directly against her temple.

He began dragging his struggling former mistress backward toward the heavy wooden doors of the kitchen.

"If anyone follows me, I will blow this entire building into the ocean!" Julian threatened wildly.

Maxwell remained seated at his table, sipping his vintage wine as if he was simply watching a theatrical play.

"You do not possess the necessary intelligence to rig explosives, Julian," Maxwell stated loudly, clearly mocking the desperate man.

Julian let out a manic, unhinged laugh that sent genuine chills running rapidly down Sarah’s spine.

He pulled a small, black remote detonator from his pocket, holding it high in the air for everyone to clearly see.

"I may not be a genius, but I am certainly rich enough to hire professionals who are," Julian spat back venomously.

He slammed his thumb down hard onto the single red button of the remote.

Sarah instinctively threw her arms over her face and braced her body for the devastating blast.

However, the explosion did not come from beneath the marble floors of the beautiful oceanfront restaurant.

A massive, deafening shockwave completely rocked the building from the outside, violently shattering the massive glass walls inward.
