Chapter 2 - The Forged Legacy

The devastating revelation hung heavily in the humid ocean air, suffocating the last bit of hope in Sarah’s heart.
Guests gasped out loud, pulling out their expensive smartphones to record the scandalous downfall of the Vanguard heiress.
Cynthia confidently marched up to Maxwell’s table and slammed the marriage certificate directly onto the polished gold surface.
"As his legal widow, I claim immediate, sole ownership of the entire holding company," Cynthia announced with extreme arrogance.
Julian instantly realized this was his only remaining lifeline, and he quickly rushed to stand right beside Cynthia.
"She is telling the absolute truth," Julian lied smoothly, trying to regain his professional composure in front of the cameras.
Sarah forced herself to take a deep breath, refusing to let another tear fall for these treacherous people.
She leaned over the table, staring intensely at the elegant cursive handwriting on the marriage document.
Something about the date printed near the bottom edge caught her attention, making a fierce spark of defiance ignite in her mind.
"My father fell into a deep coma on the fourth of October," Sarah stated clearly, projecting her voice across the room.
She pointed a perfectly manicured finger at the bright red state seal on Cynthia's supposed evidence.
"This marriage certificate is clearly dated October the seventh."
The entire room erupted into shocking gasps once again as the guests processed the enormous legal implication.
"A man in a medically induced coma cannot legally consent to a marriage," Sarah said, glaring directly into Cynthia’s terrified eyes.
Maxwell let out a loud, booming laugh that echoed terrifyingly against the glass walls of the restaurant.
He snapped his fingers, and his lead security officer immediately confiscated the forged document from the table.
"It seems you and your lovely mistress are going to federal prison for a very long time, Julian," Maxwell chuckled darkly.
Cynthia began backing away slowly, her confident facade entirely shattered by the sudden threat of absolute ruin.
She suddenly pointed an accusing finger straight at Julian's chest, tears of sheer panic streaming down her face.
"It was entirely his idea, he forced me to forge the papers so he could steal the company!" Cynthia screamed hysterically.
Julian looked at her in pure shock, realizing his closest ally had just thrown him entirely under the bus.
He knew that financial fraud against the Vanguard Estate carried a mandatory minimum sentence of twenty years behind bars.
The billionaire's heavily armed guards began advancing slowly toward Julian, completely blocking all the main exits.

Julian’s eyes darted frantically around the enclosed space, fully realizing he was entirely trapped like a cornered animal.
Without any warning, Julian reached inside his tailored tuxedo jacket and pulled out a heavy, black handgun.
