Warren was trying to take her out of the country before the police could piece the truth together.
"They're heading for the private airstrip on the county line!" I shouted, sprinting back toward the parking lot.
Lucas slammed his foot on the gas pedal, pushing his sedan well past the speed limit.
Tessa sat in the backseat, plugging her flash drive into a laptop to send the video directly to the police chief.

"That's them!" Lucas yelled, swerving into the oncoming lane to pull up alongside the heavy vehicle.

Lucas slammed our car into the side of the van, forcing the driver to swerve onto the gravel shoulder.
Both vehicles skidded to a violent halt in a cloud of dust and burnt rubber.
I unbuckled my seatbelt and kicked my door open before we even stopped moving.
I marched toward the back doors of the transport van, ready to rip them off their hinges.
The heavy metal doors swung open, but I didn't see my mother or my sleeping daughter.

"I'm not letting a useless toddler take what belongs to me," my father snarled, his finger tightening on the trigger.
