Chapter 6 - The Vanishing Sister

We sprinted to Lucas's car, the tires screeching as we peeled out of the hardware store parking lot.
I tried calling Tessa's number over and over, but it went straight to voicemail every single time.
"She must be at their house in the suburbs," Lucas suggested, running a red light.
We arrived at my parents' massive colonial home and pounded furiously on the front door.
When nobody answered, Lucas grabbed a heavy garden rock and smashed the glass patio door.
We tore through the house, searching every bedroom and closet for my younger sister.
The house was completely empty, but Tessa's bedroom looked like a hurricane had ripped through it.
Her clothes were scattered everywhere, and her shattered phone case lay abandoned on the carpet.
"He took her," I whispered, the sheer terror paralyzing my throat.
Lucas pulled up a tracking app on his phone that he used for the hardware store's delivery trucks.
"Warren took the company van, and the GPS shows it parked at the old lumber warehouse on Route 9," Lucas said.
We sped toward the abandoned industrial park on the dark outskirts of town.

As we turned the final corner, the night sky was glowing with an unnatural, violent orange hue.
The warehouse was completely engulfed in massive, raging flames.
