Chapter 5 - The Stolen Identity

I backed away from Lucas, clutching the small orange bottle tightly to my chest.

"Why does this have your name on it?" I demanded, my voice shaking with betrayal.

Lucas looked just as horrified as I was, staring at the label in sheer disbelief.

"I lost my wallet at your parents' house a month ago, remember?" he stammered defensively.

"Warren must have used my ID to fill a fraudulent prescription at his friend's pharmacy," he explained frantically.

It made perfect sense, considering how deeply my father controlled the town's small businesses.

Warren had planned this setup for weeks, ensuring that if anything went wrong, Lucas and I would take the fall.

My phone vibrated in my pocket, shattering the tense silence between us.

It was a text message from an unknown number, containing only a short video attachment.

I pressed play, holding the screen up so Lucas could see it too.

The shaky footage showed Elaine in the store's kitchen, crushing blue pills into a bowl of applesauce.

Warren's voice could be heard in the background saying, "Make sure she doesn't wake up until the pageant is over."

A second text message popped up on the screen right after the video ended.

"I filmed them, but Warren found out and he is coming for me," the message from Tessa read.
