Chapter 8 - The Federal Trap

I aimed my gun directly at my uncle's treacherous heart.
"You are lying to me," I screamed, the angry echo bouncing off the high tin roof.
Silas just smiled deeper, showing his stained, yellow teeth in the dim light.
"She called the FBI the moment you stepped out of the room to make your phone calls."
"She knew you would all die if she stayed, so she offered them the flash drive in exchange for witness protection."
I shot Silas straight through his left thigh without a single second of hesitation.
He screamed in absolute agony and collapsed heavily to the dirty concrete floor.
I walked over and kicked the dropped gun out of his reaching hand.
"Where is the federal transport heading right now?" I demanded softly.
Silas gasped for air, clutching his profusely bleeding leg in pure terror.
"They are taking her across the Manhattan Bridge to the primary federal safe house."
I left him bleeding on the floor and sprinted back to my stolen motorcycle.
I tore through the city streets, running every red light to reach the bridge in time.
I spotted the black, armored federal transport van moving swiftly through the heavy rain.
I drew my pistol and shot the van's rear tires, causing the massive vehicle to violently swerve and crash into the concrete barrier.
I jumped off the sliding motorcycle and approached the wrecked van with my gun raised.
I ripped the bent metal doors open, fully ready to slaughter every agent inside.
But there were absolutely no federal agents inside the vehicle.

Maria was sitting alone in the dark back, her hands tied securely to the metal bench.
Strapped tightly to her chest was a military-grade explosive device with a ticking red timer.
