Chapter 7 - The Empty Cage

I transformed into an absolute monster in that exact moment.
I climbed out onto the rusted fire escape and followed the trail of fresh blood.
The dark drops led down to the muddy alleyway behind the warehouse.
I saw fresh tire tracks in the thick mud heading toward the main street.
I remembered the text message I had read on Elias's phone after the crash.
Silas had ordered him to bring the child to the harbor.
I stole a motorcycle from a nearby alley and rode like a madman toward the Brooklyn waterfront.
I parked three blocks away from the main shipping yard and approached silently on foot.
The rain poured down heavily, masking the sound of my footsteps on the wet concrete.
I found five armed men guarding a massive rusted warehouse near Pier 4.
I killed the first guard silently by snapping his neck in the deep shadows.
I shot the next three men with ruthless, terrifying precision before they could even draw their weapons.
I shot the final guard in the kneecap and dragged him bleeding into the harsh light.
"Where are they?" I roared, pressing my hot gun directly to his forehead.
The man coughed up blood and pointed a trembling finger toward the massive metal doors.
I executed him instantly and kicked the heavy warehouse doors wide open.
The massive building was completely empty except for a single wooden chair in the center of the room.
Sitting on the chair was my Uncle Silas, calmly smoking an expensive cigar.
He smiled at me and raised his hands in mock surrender.

"You are too late, Daniel," Silas laughed, blowing thick smoke into the damp air.
"I didn't kidnap your new family; Maria voluntarily traded herself to the federal agents to protect the child."
