Chapter 8 - The Leap

Time seemed to slow down entirely as Nathan threw himself into the empty abyss.

He stretched his arms out as far as they could possibly go, feeling the bitter wind tear at his clothes.

His strong fingers violently snagged the fabric of Lily's jacket just feet below the window ledge.

Nathan slammed heavily against the exterior glass of the skyscraper, the breath exploding from his lungs.

He held his crying daughter tightly with one arm while his other hand gripped the jagged metal window frame.

Blood poured profusely from his sliced palm, making the cold metal incredibly slippery.

Above them, Grace was fiercely battling Victoria on the glass-covered floor of the office.

Victoria grabbed a heavy marble paperweight from the desk and swung it violently at Grace's head.

Grace dodged the lethal blow and punched the billionaire directly in the jaw.

Victoria collapsed backward, hitting her head aggressively against the corner of a wooden bookshelf.

She fell entirely unconscious on the plush carpet.

Grace rushed to the shattered window, reaching her trembling arms down toward her family.

With an agonizing scream of pure effort, Nathan hoisted Lily upward into her mother's waiting grasp.

Grace pulled the terrified child safely into the office, covering her in frantic kisses.

Nathan slowly pulled his own battered body over the sharp ledge, collapsing onto the floor in complete exhaustion.

He wrapped his bleeding arms around both of them, finally allowing himself to breathe.

Suddenly, Victoria stood up behind them, wiping a stream of blood from her forehead.

She was holding a silver revolver aimed directly at Nathan's head.

"Nobody is leaving this room alive," Victoria whispered, pulling the hammer back.
