Chapter 5 - The Escape

The attorney aimed the silenced weapon directly at Nathan's chest.
"Victoria sends her warmest regards," the corrupt lawyer said with a sinister grin.
Nathan did not hesitate for a single second.
He grabbed the heavy metal chair bolted to the floor and kicked it violently upward.
The chair snapped off its hinges and slammed into the lawyer's wrist.
The gun fired wildly, shattering the thick glass separating Nathan from Grace.
Alarms immediately began blaring throughout the maximum-security prison.
Nathan reached through the jagged glass and pulled Grace forcefully into the visitor side of the room.
"We have to move right now," Nathan yelled over the deafening sirens.
They sprinted down the long fluorescent hallway, dodging startled guards who were still trying to understand the chaos.
Nathan used the stolen security keycard from the unconscious lawyer to open the heavy exterior doors.
They burst out into the freezing night air and ran desperately toward the stolen landscaping truck.
Spotlights swept across the massive prison yard, barely missing them as they climbed into the vehicle.
Nathan slammed his foot on the gas pedal, tearing through the chain-link perimeter fence.
They drove aggressively down the rural highway, listening to the police chatter on the truck's stolen radio.
Grace held onto the dashboard, breathing heavily as her adrenaline faded into exhaustion.
"Where are we going?" she asked, clutching her bruised shoulder.
"We are going to Victoria's private airstrip," Nathan replied firmly.
"We are not leaving this state without our daughter."
They arrived at the secluded airfield just as the sun began to rise over the horizon.
Victoria's sleek white private jet was idling on the runway, its massive engines roaring loudly.
Nathan drove the battered truck directly through the VIP security gates, ignoring the shouting armed guards.
He slammed on the brakes right in front of the airplane's boarding stairs.
Nathan kicked the truck door open and sprinted up the metal steps with his fists clenched.

He tore the cabin door open, expecting to find Victoria and Lily inside.
Instead, he found the jet completely empty except for a ringing cell phone sitting on a leather seat.
