Chapter 2 - The Stolen Child
Nathan immediately stood up and stepped in front of Grace to shield her from the drawn weapons.
"There has been a massive mistake," Nathan yelled at the officers.
"This woman is the child's biological mother."
The lead officer pulled a thick stack of documents from his tactical vest.
"We have a sworn affidavit from your fiancé, Victoria Sterling, stating this maid kidnapped the child from a local orphanage."
Nathan stared in absolute disbelief at the fabricated paperwork.
Grace sobbed uncontrollably as two officers grabbed her arms and violently pulled her to her feet.
"Please, don't take my baby," Grace begged, fighting against the cold steel handcuffs.
Lily screamed in sheer terror, reaching her tiny hands out toward her mother.
Nathan grabbed the lead officer's shoulder.
"I am Nathan Cole, and I am telling you this is a lie orchestrated by Victoria."
The officer shoved Nathan backward with aggressive force.
"If you interfere with this arrest, Mister Cole, you will be going to jail too."
A woman in a sharp gray suit walked into the kitchen, holding a clipboard.
"I am with Child Protective Services," the woman announced coldly.
She forcefully pulled Lily out of Nathan's desperate grip.
"Since the mother is being incarcerated, the child is entering the emergency foster system."
Nathan watched in horror as Grace was dragged out of the front door and thrown into a police cruiser.
He turned to the social worker.
"I am her biological father, I demand you leave her with me."
The woman sneered at him.
"Your name is not on the birth certificate, which means you have absolutely zero legal rights."
She carried the screaming toddler out into the freezing rain.
Nathan ran after them, desperate to stop the car from leaving.
He froze when he saw the social worker open the back door of a sleek black limousine.

Victoria was sitting inside the luxury vehicle with a sinister smile on her face.
The social worker handed Lily directly into Victoria's waiting arms.
