Chapter 7 - The Brink

The freezing city wind howled aggressively through the shattered penthouse window.

Grace let out a blood-curdling scream as she saw her tiny daughter dangling dangerously over the deadly drop.

"Don't take another step," Victoria warned, her manicured fingers gripping Lily's small shirt collar.

Lily was sobbing hysterically, kicking her tiny legs in the empty air above the bustling city streets.

Nathan froze completely, his heart stopping in his chest.

"Put her down, Victoria," Nathan pleaded, keeping his voice as calm as humanly possible.

"You have won, you can take the company and all the money."

Victoria smiled wickedly, her flawless designer dress blowing wildly in the heavy wind.

"It was never just about the money, Nathan."

"It was about absolute power, and the humiliation of knowing you loved a filthy servant more than me."

She pulled a digital tablet from her pocket and tossed it onto the glass floor near Nathan's feet.

"Sign the emergency asset transfer, right now."

Nathan immediately dropped to his knees and pressed his thumb against the biometric scanner on the screen.

He authorized the transfer of billions of dollars directly into Victoria's offshore accounts.

"It is done," Nathan said, sliding the tablet away.

"Now give me my daughter."

Victoria looked at the confirmation screen on her smartwatch and laughed brightly.

"You really are incredibly stupid, Nathan."

"Did you honestly think I would leave loose ends behind?"

She began to loosen her absolute grip on the crying child's shirt.

Grace suddenly charged forward with terrifying speed, ignoring the searing pain in her wounded shoulder.

She tackled Victoria aggressively around the waist, sending both women crashing onto the edge of the shattered window frame.

Lily slipped from Victoria's hands and plummeted over the edge.

Nathan dove forward, throwing his entire body out of the broken window in a desperate leap.
