Chapter 7 - The Double Cross

I froze completely, staring down at Vincent as his horrifying words processed in my mind.

If Leo was the traitor, then the man guarding my daughter in the car right now was a monster.

I slowly looked up toward the rusted metal catwalk on the far side of the warehouse.

Leo stepped out of the shadows, aiming his sniper rifle directly at my chest.

Marcus burst into a fit of hysterical laughter that echoed off the cold steel walls.

“Renzo was a fool who thought he was in charge, but Leo was my inside man all along,” Marcus gloated.

“Kill the maid, take the drive, and go fetch the little girl from the car,” Marcus ordered his sniper.

I instinctively threw myself over Vincent’s broken body, waiting for the fatal gunshot.

The deafening crack of a high-powered rifle shattered the tense silence in the mill.

But the bullet did not hit me.

Marcus screamed in absolute agony as his right knee completely exploded in a spray of crimson.

He collapsed to the metal grate, dropping his weapon and clutching his ruined leg.

I looked back up at the catwalk in total confusion.

Leo pumped the bolt of his rifle, ejecting a smoking casing, and aimed at the other guards.

“I did sell the security codes, Marcus,” Leo yelled over the chaos.

“But I sold them to the FBI, not to you.”

Suddenly, the massive bay doors of the warehouse were ripped open by armored government vehicles.

Dozens of federal agents swarmed into the building, throwing flashbang grenades and screaming for everyone to drop their weapons.

I grabbed Vincent by the collar and dragged him behind a rusted piece of heavy machinery to avoid the crossfire.

“You survived,” I cried, pressing my hands against his bleeding chest to stop the hemorrhage.

Vincent smiled weakly, his eyes rolling back in his head.

May you like

Then, a cold, sharp blade was pressed firmly against the side of my throat.

“Nobody survives tonight,” Renzo hissed directly into my ear.
