Chapter 9 - The Final Stand

Silas stared at the completely useless detonator in his hand with pure, unfiltered panic.

Rowan stepped quietly out from behind the confessional booth holding a pair of heavy wire cutters.

The brave young boy had silently disarmed the explosives while the massive gunfight raged on.

Killeran used the perfect moment of confusion to sprint directly down the center aisle.

He tackled Silas violently, sending them both crashing heavily into the marble baptismal font.

Silas scrambled to draw his combat knife, slicing a deep, bloody cut across Killeran's shoulder.

Killeran ignored the burning pain entirely and delivered a crushing blow to Silas's ribs.

He grabbed the rogue agent fiercely by the throat and slammed him hard onto the floor.

The remaining rogue agents raised their weapons to cowardly shoot Killeran in the back.

Suddenly, the heavy oak doors of the church were kicked completely off their iron hinges.

Dozens of loyal mafia soldiers poured rapidly into the sanctuary with their rifles raised.

Killeran's true, loyal captains had finally tracked his location and arrived for immediate backup.

The rogue agents immediately dropped their weapons and surrendered in absolute, overwhelming terror.

Killeran stood up slowly, heavily bleeding but entirely victorious.

He looked down at Silas with cold, unforgiving eyes and ordered his men to take him away forever.

The terrible nightmare was finally over, and the traitor had been entirely defeated.

Killeran walked slowly over to Mave, who was leaning exhaustedly against a wooden pew.

He gently touched her bruised cheek, wiping a small smudge of dirt entirely from her face.

He told her softly that she was the bravest, most beautiful woman he had ever known.

Mave smiled warmly and leaned her head lovingly against his strong chest.

The bright morning sun began to rise, shining beautifully through the broken stained glass.

It was finally a truly peaceful Christmas morning in Boston.

Killeran promised Mave that she would never be invisible to him ever again.

He leaned down gently and kissed her deeply, perfectly sealing their new life together.

His loyal men cheered loudly as the church bells began to ring clearly in the distance.

The brutal war was over, but the actual cleanup was only just beginning.
