Chapter 7 - The Ring of Fire

The rogue agents immediately began tossing military incendiary grenades through the high windows.

Massive pools of chemical fire erupted violently across the wet concrete floor.

The flames spread rapidly, entirely consuming wooden crates and old rusty machinery.

Thick black smoke began to fill the warehouse rapidly, making it completely impossible to breathe.

Killeran took off his heavy winter jacket and wrapped it around Rowan to protect him.

He looked at Mave and told her he would draw their heavy fire so she could escape.

Mave angrily refused to leave him behind to die alone in the growing flames.

She pointed urgently to an old drainage grate set deep into the floor near the generator.

She explained that all harbor warehouses had emergency flood drains that led directly to the ocean.

Killeran grabbed a heavy metal pipe and forcefully pried the rusted iron grate open.

The dark tunnel below was incredibly narrow and filled with freezing, rushing seawater.

Rowan climbed down carefully into the drain first, shivering violently in the terrible cold.

Mave followed closely behind him, actively keeping her loaded pistol completely dry.

Killeran fired a massive barrage of bullets toward the front doors to keep the agents back.

He jumped down heavily into the drainage pipe just as the generator above them exploded.

The massive shockwave collapsed the tunnel entrance, sealing them perfectly inside the dark pipe.

They waded exhaustingly through waist-deep, freezing water for twenty agonizing minutes.

They finally reached a large outflow pipe that emptied directly into the Boston harbor.

They swam bravely through the icy waves and climbed onto an abandoned wooden pier.

Killeran dragged himself heavily onto the dock, his muscles screaming in pure exhaustion.

Mave huddled tightly next to her brother to share body heat in the freezing wind.

They desperately needed a secure place to hide and regroup before the morning came.

Killeran realized his estate and his safe houses were all completely compromised by Silas.

Mave whispered that she knew a secret place where nobody would ever look for them.

She led them quietly through the dark city alleys to a beautiful, historic Catholic church.

They walked slowly through the heavy wooden doors and were greeted by Sister Agnes.

The kindly old nun locked the doors quickly and pulled a massive shotgun directly from under the altar.
