Chapter 15 - The Viper's Den

Harper held the secure satellite phone to her ear, taking a deep, steadying breath to calm her racing heart.

Evelyn answered on the second ring, her voice dripping with cold anticipation.

Harper forced a convincing sob into her voice, whispering that the deed was finally done.

She claimed Vincent had drank the poisoned whiskey and was currently lying dead on the library floor.

Evelyn laughed softly, a cruel and triumphant sound that made Harper physically sick.

The older woman promised she would send her elite cleanup crew to the estate to secure the territory.

Harper hung up the phone and looked over at Vincent, who was already strapping a tactical vest over his dress shirt.

He handed Harper a compact, suppressed pistol and taught her how to disengage the safety.

He told her that he never wanted her to pull the trigger, but she needed to be prepared for the worst.

Elias and the remaining loyal guards silently took up defensive positions in the shadows of the mansion.

Every light in the massive estate was extinguished, plunging the property into total darkness.

An eerie, suffocating silence fell over the grounds as they waited for the assassins to arrive.

Twenty minutes later, a fleet of black, unmarked tactical vans breached the front gates.

Dozens of heavily armed mercenaries poured out onto the manicured lawns, moving with military precision.

They expected to find a mourning waitress and a dead boss.

Instead, they walked directly into the most sophisticated kill zone Vincent Rossi had ever designed.

The blinding floodlights of the estate suddenly snapped on, illuminating the assassins perfectly in the open.
